Staff Sergeant Johnny “Joey” Jones was wounded in combat serving as an EOD, bomb technician in 2010. Losing both of his legs, what could have simply been a lifelong disability became a lifelong mission to share his gratitude for being alive and his love for the people he shares this country with. Joey co-hosts Fox News Channel’s “Big Weekend Show." He is also a regular guest host on the primetime show “The Five," the morning show "Fox and Friends,” and a regular guest on Fox’s late-night show "Gutfeld." He works across all FOX News Media platforms, including hosting several shows and specials on FOX Nation. Jones has penned two books, both of which are New York Times bestsellers. “Unbroken Bonds of Battle” stayed on the list for 13 weeks while his latest book, “Behind the Badge,” debuted as a #1 best seller.
It’s no secret that Jones loves his country and the people in it. When he isn’t hosting a national news show he’s often traveling the country to share his outlook on life and the adversity that comes with it along with his belief that things like gratitude and responsibility are key to getting through tough times and enjoying the good times. In May of 2026 Jones made the decision to re-enlist as a United States Marine Corps Reservist and works at the Pentagon when he’s in uniform. At the heart his message is the importance of service and sacrifice, not just to be dreaded obligations, but rather to be seen as unique opportunities.
Known to his friends as "Triple J," Jones was raised in Dalton, Georgia and enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school. During his eight years of service, Jones worked as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (bomb) Technician, deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan on separate tours. During his last deployment to Afghanistan, Jones’ team rendered safe and destroyed nearly 80 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along with thousands of pounds of other unknown bulk explosives. In August 2010 Jones was struck by an IED. He suffered several life-threatening injuries including the loss of both legs above the knee.
In 2011 Jones founded a peer visit program at Walter Reed. While still inpatient during his recovery, he began taking college classes on campus at the hospital. After regaining full physical independence in July 2011, Jones enrolled at Georgetown University and graduated in May 2014.
During this time Jones worked with the USMC office of legislative affairs to create a year-long fellowship with the House Veterans Affairs Committee for a combat wounded Marine recovering in the DC metro Area. Jones was the first to hold this fellowship from July 2011 to June 2012.
After losing his childhood best friend to PTSD-related suicide in 2012, Jones decided to make veterans’ issues a key part of his professional work. Throughout his post-service career, he has carefully fostered relationships with key players in politics and media to keep those issues at the forefront of discussion. He has shared his experiences and insights on the challenges facing active duty and retired service members with multiple presidents and senior military leaders. Jones still enjoys a close personal and working relationship with current Cabinet officials and members of Congress.
After leaving the DC area in 2014 Jones moved near Austin Texas to help lead the national military nonprofit Boot Campaign, where brought veteran and military advocacy to life by partnering with mainstream celebrities and brands to show their support for men and women in uniform. Jones also continued his political advocacy as well as remaining a frequent unpaid guest on FOX News Channel until he signed his first contributor agreement with FNM in July 2019. Prior to joining FOX News, Jones helped design and pilot a Warrior Week military transition program as the senior advisor to military programming at Zac Brown’s Camp Southern Ground.
Jones currently serves on the Board of Directors for the national nonprofit Boot Campaign, which serves the health and wellness of the veteran community through a pipeline of treatment!
